As a newly adopted southerner I am still figuring out how to deal with this heat. September is the time when kids go back to school and you start needing an extra blanket at night. Here, I feel like summer is still in full swing and I can never escape the sun. Despite my need for jeans and hot chocolate, this warm weather allows me to extend my summer clothes and try to style them in different ways.
I bought this romper at a small boutique back home with the intent of wearing in at school. I love the blend of bright and cheerful colors as well as the play on herringbone print. I’m also dipping my toes into the off the shoulder trend. This trend reminds me of the days back in middle school when my friends and I would wear baggy shirt or sweaters and pull one sleeve down so we had a cool and quite sophisticated “off the shoulder” look. As much as I admire this trend and think it is very flattering on many people, it tends to annoy me. I wore this romper to class and found that I couldn’t really raise my hand or else the whole thing would fly up, turning a cute outfit into a fashion disaster.
Despite my own issues, this is one of those outfits that wakes me up in the morning and makes me happier. I paired the romper with sneakers to give it a more relaxed look which also made me feel just a little closer to fall.

The slip dress has been a huge trend recently so I thought I would show you how I wore this trend in a more bohemian way. One of the reasons I think the slip dress is so popular is because it is so simple and comfortable and looks so chic in that effortless way. Keeping that effortless style in mind I chose this dress because of its lace details, adding a feminine touch to the look, and its handkerchief hem adding that boho feel that is perfect for summer. It also didn’t hurt that the dress was on super sale at Saks Off Fifth for about $40! I paired the look with my favorite pair of lace up wedges that I bought at DSW for only $60 (I just wore these to my graduation!) which also adds to the boho vibe. I added this woven cross body bag as opposed to my usual saddle bag that I would wear with a bohemian look because it is less structured, like the dress, and acts as an interesting focal point in this simple look. In many cases bohemian looks can seem overwhelming with tons of layers, colors, and textures which is why I love this look because it achieves the boho style while still looking simple and effortless.

Every fourth of July always makes me realize how little red I have in my closet. Almost every year I end up just wearing white and blue, my favorite color, which I have plenty of in my closet. This is my first time attempting a swimwear look for Like Lillian and I am very happy with the way it turned out. I have to thank my friend Shoshana for not only taking these amazing pictures but also for allowing me to use her pool as my set for this shoot. I chose this suit to feature not only because it is somewhat patriotic but also because it is my first one-piece suit since my dreaded days of high school swim team. One-piece bathing suits are a huge trend this summer and I have been searching for the perfect one-piece that is not only eye catching but also inexpensive. I of course love the Zimmerman and Mara Hoffman one-piece suits however I can’t bring myself to spend $200 on something that is going to give me bad tan lines. I found the suit I am wearing in this post on the Aerie site, where many of my bathing suits and beachwear items are from, on sale for only $15. I really like the Aerie brand for summer clothing, bathing suits, bralettes, and underwear which you can always get for a great deal. I also appreciate their ‘untouched’ campaign featuring young women who are not retouched which I think is empowering and refreshing to see. I paired the suit with a loose pinstripe linen button-down from Denim and Supply Ralph Lauren and ripped jean shorts from American Eagle, which I wear almost everyday when it gets really hot in the summer. I also added these festive Sperry sneakers that I recently purchased from DSW, which are super comfortable. Also, the sunglasses featured in this post are my new favorites from Ilymix and if you would like to purchase a pair use my coupon code, LikeLillian20, to get 20% of your purchase.
Thank you so much for visiting Like Lillian and Happy 4th of July!

Even though it is summer you can still pull off the layering trend. Where I live it can get cooler at night during the summer so I love wearing cropped sweaters to add another texture or change the silhouette of my outfit. I paired this light linen dress with a heavier sweater to balance the look. I wanted to wear these sandals because the color and the fact that they are flats are somewhat unexpected. I actually purchased the sandals at a consignment store but I will link a similar pair in the outfit details. I like this outfit because there are plenty of possibilities to wear whatever shoes or accessories you want with it to make it more interesting or unique.

I am very excited to share this look with you all because I think it is perfect for festival season. Any one of these pieces would be great for an outdoor concert or festival. The lace up detail and the geometric print on the dress make the look different and eye catching. If you are going to a festival you probably won’t need this sweater but in case you are going somewhere a little colder I think this is a perfect piece because it is soft and simple and doesn’t detract from the dress. These sandals are my favorite pair and I usually wear them more often than my flip flops in the summer because they are so comfortable but also add a boho vibe to the look with the beaded detail. I was considering doing a post on the sunglasses alone because I love them so much. I bought these at a market on Houston Street in New York City for thirty dollars and I have absolutely gotten my money’s worth out of them. They add a twist to the classic aviator style and I love the rose gold lenses. Lastly I have to thank my friend Rosie (happy belated birthday!) for taking these pictures and I am so happy with how they turned out.
Thanks for visiting Like Lillian and happy mother’s day!
