Grammys 2017 Red Carpet Trends

The Grammys are always an interesting event in regards to fashion. So many iconic and memorable looks. Let us never forget JLo and her 2000 plunging dress and more recently, Lady Gaga’s 2016 tribute to David Bowie. The most obvious standout this year was a fairly unknown African American artist, Joy Villa, who wore a dress with President Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” along with “Trump” along the train of the gown. This could be a “love Trump’s hate” type of message or maybe she is a supporter. Either one, I don’t think this stunt will keep her in the limelight for long.

Now for the more exciting news on the red carpet. Some of the major trends of the night crossed all genres. We saw plenty of keyhole cutouts, some more risqué than others (@JLo again). here are some of the stars from country music to pop performers who rocked this look.

Jennifer Lopez
Faith Hill
Demi Lovato
Carrie Underwood

The red carpet was also lit up by many other stars who decided to rock the metallic trend. Heidi Klum finally has come out of her fashion slump with this awesome metallic mini. Although Heidi is on her way out a slump, Katy Perry may be on her way in with this ill-fitted look. Here are the stars that blinded us with their metallic ensembles.

Best Dressed at the Emmys

Unfortunately I did not get to watch the Emmy Awards this year  however I am very excited because I just read that one of my favorite cast members on SNL, Kate McKinnon, won outstanding supporting actress. Anytime she would play Justin Bieber I would be on the floor laughing hysterically. I was also keeping up with the red carpet fashion (as per usual) and I was pleasantly surprised by a few people who broke the mold. Going through all of the looks I was seeing the usual red gowns, black and white dresses, and high slits that did not seem to be that different or interesting compared to any other red carpet. The people who I chose as my best dressed celebs decided (or their stylists decided) to take a bit of a risk and I think it paid off well. Here are my best dressed pics for the 2016 Emmy Awards:

Kristen Bell wore this Zuhair Murad gown beautifully last night. I love how the jewelry was kept simple and classic to let the dress speak for itself. Her neck was left bare to draw even more attention to the plunging neckline. Her skin is glowing, nothing to heavy on her face and her hair is just messy enough to relax the look. This nude color is not easy to wear however Kristen pulls it off effortlessly.

This dress may be one of the most interesting looks I saw at the Emmys this year. I like how Olivia Culpo took a risk with the midi hem and sheer details. The dress is also interesting because it is a Zac Posen piece which is unusual as he is known for solid, more sophisticated gowns. This look is fun which is not always a celebrity’s number one criteria for a red carpet look although I believe it should be.

This Atelier Versace dress is extremely hard to wear because there is no hiding anything. The color, the fabric and the silhouette are all beautiful however they are made for a specific body type, which Emilia Clarke has. This dress accentuates her curves and creates a dramatic waistline that gives the dress its sexy edge. The classic old Hollywood feel that the gown and Emilia’s updo have makes this look shine on the carpet.

Rarely do I have men on my best dressed lists because is it often times much harder for them to stand out among the glamorous and dramatic gowns. Trevor Jackson looks tailored and stylish in this Anthony Franco velvet suit. Not only is he on trend with the velvet but he also pulled off a colored suit which is very difficult to do without looking over-the-top. I always appreciate a man who tries to wear something different or who has fun with fashion on the red carpet. Well done Trevor Jackson.

Golden Globes Trends 2016

Happy award season! Every year I choose my favorite looks for each award show but this year I wanted to switch it up and share the top trends from the Globes. I am watching the red carpet coverage on E! as I am writing this and the jewelry this year is beautiful especially Leslie Mann’s choker, Jaimie Alexander’s rings, and Jennifer Lopez’s necklace. The hair trends tonight include short pony tails, like Malin Akerman’s, and intricate braids like Rooney Mara’s. Here are some of my favorite fashion trends of the night:

Emmys Best Dressed

Here are my favorite looks from the Emmys:

Sara Hyland in Zac posen
Sara Hyland in Zac posen. This dress is perfect for Sara because it is youthful but also sophisticated with gorgeous monochrome jewels. Even her nails match!
Tarali p. henson in alexander wang
Taraji P. Henson in Alexander Wang. This custom Alexander Wang dress is so edgy with the chain straps, cutout, and sheer lace skirt. It is perfect for Cookie. And her lob is killing it.
Kerry washington in marc jacobs
Kerry Washington in Marc Jacobs. Although I’m sure some people may disagree with me but I love this dress. It is such a fashion statement and she looks like a glamorous gladiator (if you are a Scandal fan then you laughed a little at that). Really I love everything that Kerry wears.
Emma roberts in jenny packham
Emma Roberts in Jenny Packham. Among all of the heavy beaded, dark and complex dresses on the carpet this dress stands out as light and etherial ensemble. This dress color was a perfect choice for Emma’s skin tone and hair color as well.
Lady gaga in brandon maxwell
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell. I love how Lady Gaga has reinvented herself and looks so glamorous and classic in this stunning black gown and classic blond waves.
Jaimie alexander in armani prive
Jaimie Alexander in Armani Prive. This dress is a work of art. As it was apparently extremely hot at the Emmys, I felt bad for Jaimie but everything from her edgy slicked back hair to the simple jewelry and makeup makes this dress stand out and she looks amazing.
Aubrey plaza in alexander vauthier
Aubrey Plaza in Alexander Vauthier. I am in love with this dress. This high slit and low v-neck are balanced perfectly with the long sleeves. I love how simple this look is and how the dress shines when the light hits it.

Met Gala 2015

The Met Gala was this past Monday and it was just as fabulous as I had expected. The theme this year was China: Through the Looking Glass. There were plenty of crazy trends on the red carpet like poppies, totally sheer dresses, Asian inspired designs (I am in love with Cara Delevnigne’s body art), painful headpieces, and even some super short minis. Here are some of my favorite looks from the glamorous evening:

Elizabeth Banks in Micheal Kors

My Oscar Picks

Happy Oscars everyone! Here are my favorite looks of the night:

Jennifer Aniston looks amazing in this Versace dress. The detail and shape of this dress makes Jennifer’s body look great. The color of the dress compliments her skin tone and hair perfectly.

I love Reese Witherspoon’s sleek Tom Ford dress. This dress shows off her curves and gives her body a beautiful shape. I also really love her simple hair and makeup which really shows her natural beauty and lets the dress stand out.

Dakota Johnson looks stunning in this Saint Laurent gown. I usually don’t like one shoulder dresses, but this one strap adds the perfect touch of glamour. I love how it is modern but yet still has the feel of an old Hollywood look.

Lupita Nyong’o is absolutely fabulous in this Calvin Klein Collection dress. The pearl detail on this dress is beautiful and gives it such a classic and elegant feel. Her jewelry, hair and makeup work seamlessly with the dress. This dress is a work of art and is my favorite look of the night.

My SAG Award Picks

The SAG awards ended a little while ago and I am so happy for Viola Davis and Uzo Aduba from two of my favorite shows, How to Get Away with Murder and Orange is the New Black, who both had beautiful speeches that may have made me cry. Here are my favorite looks of the night:

Emma Stone in Dior

My Golden Globes Picks

My favorite award show of the season is the Golden Globes because I get to see the actors and actresses from TV and film, and their outfits, all in one night. Narrowing my choices down to a few of the best looks of the night was challenging, but I was more excited about what the celebrities were saying than what they were wearing. It seemed to be a night that honored women. Two hilarious women hosted the show. Many women who won gave speeches honoring other groundbreaking women not only in film, but in everyday life. Reese Witherspoon brought with her to the Golden Globes Cheryl Strayed who wrote the memoir Wild which I read last year in school. Strayed is a woman who hiked the Pacific Crest Trail by herself and became an inspiration for so many. Also, a speech that I found powerful was Joanne Froggatt’s from Downtown Abbey who won best supporting actress. She talked about women who were victims of rape who sent her letters saying that they wanted to be heard. She responded in her speech, you are heard. It was an emotional and glamorous night at the Golden Globes, but anyway, here are my picks:

Lupita Nyong’o

Emma Stone

Anna Kendrick

Dakota Johnson
